Understanding the power of silence.

ᴜɴᴅᴇʀꜱᴛᴀɴᴅɪɴɢ ᴛʜᴇ ᴘᴏᴡᴇʀ ᴏꜰ ꜱɪʟᴇɴᴄᴇ.

𝘛𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘳 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺.

𝘛𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵.

𝘛𝘰 𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘛𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘎𝘰𝘥(𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘴).

I’ve always been drawn to silence. 

When I was small we had a day of silence at school. I was the last child to speak. We also used to play a game called sleeping lions, (I think this was quite a clever idea on our parents part!) - we’d have to pretend to be a sleeping lion, silent and motionless, the last person to stir won. I was unmatched!

I have always been very internalised in my experience. I feel very deeply and do not so often feel the need to project that or it takes time to find words or ways to articulate. This is quite common for an ‘introvert'. 

Silence is a very natural tendency for me & the chatter of life  often feels like ’noise’. As I grow & explore myself, diving intimately into the various comforts and discomforts I house, I understand when it limits and when it creates a sacred space, an inner sanctum where I meet depth, understanding & clarity.

I agree, quite boldly, that silence is the language of God. Yes, the Divine speaks through all expressions of life yet, when I rest into stillness, & welcome silence, then my seeking pauses. Disconnecting from influences that constantly stir my perception brings me beyond my physical sight where I can receive information from a deeper felt sense.

When we sit for meditation it can seem at times that ALL the voices want to be heard. That’s Ok. This is part of the process. 

When we catch the mind running away, release from that thread. 

So, return to feel the body & the simplicity of natural breath.

During longer retreats & immersions we practice mauna for part of our day. It offers a sweet space of reflection & opportunity to receive our practices, soaking in our sādhanā.
