The Way of Shakti

As we enter the last few days of Navratri, we are in the high power of transformation and inner work; it is a time to celebrate the spirit inside of us, to tend to the flame of the heart and to focus energy and commitment towards growth and service and the power of Love.

There is an idea that was conditioned into the collective psyche; it suggested that if we were to show vulnerability, pain or sadness or to express difficulty seemingly too great to handle, that we were failing at life. That perhaps we’d messed up, got it all wrong and followed a way that merely crumbled to ashes and disappointment as we stepped our feet along its shimmering path of promises.  It was an idea that suggested we should live in light and joy and that darkness and pain should be avoided if we were to be happy, whole and successful.  And we tried so hard, to fulfill this idea, with stiff smiles and enduring efforts, but exhausted minds and hearts, holding on for dear life, numb to the beauty and potential richness of human experience.

We are made of the universe, of stardust and atoms, of energy and light and this universe has another idea about how we should exist. Her infinite power is waking up inside of us, guiding us one by one as we dare to trust, along a path that unfolds before us in luminous truth.

She knows that every aspect has an opposite; light and dark are one, joy and pain are intimate lovers and fear and love are intricately intertwined, in a constant dance to reveal the other.  Every one of these forces of nature are an equal expression of Divinity, of Shakti, of Mother, of the Great Goddess, arising from the ground of Being or Consciousness. She is power, movement, everything that is manifest, that throbs, that breathes, that pulses, that expresses in sound, in motion, in colour, light or touch. Within the highest intelligence there is no separation between her infinite forms, there is no good or evil, right or wrong; each and every spark of matter, of energy, in whatever way it expresses is made of Her, of this primordial power we call Shakti.

She is calling us home, almost raging in her attempt to wake us up so that we take ownership of the entire myriad of colours and textures that create the vibrating pulsating patterns of energy and light that we are and that we exist within. We are being beckoned to rise up and reclaim all the parts of ourselves that we have cast away and to remember and see the extraordinary weave of life that runs through us and connects us to every atom in the universe.

This is a new paradigm where to stand in true power and truth we must acknowledge, embrace and accept all of the parts of us that have been buried, shamed or suppressed.  We must give them breath and attention so that they know their home within us, as an exquisite and essential part of our being, that makes us who we are. Perfect, unique and extraordinary. We must look our fears in the eye as it is through shining the light of awareness on darkness and on our shadows that we illuminate them and their power is dissolved. We must face pain, inside and around us with the deepest presence and compassion so that there is no heart unheld by love.  Breath by breath, prayer by prayer, with her guidance we can slowly melt down the walls of separation and resistance in our own hearts, between each others hearts and in the collective consciousness. This is the yoga and this is the path of the true Goddess.
